No. Medicare typically doesn't cover 100% of your out-of-pocket costs for medical bills.1 As great as Medicare is, it was never intended to pay for everything. To help cover these out-of-pocket costs, many people get a Medicare Supplement plan.

Medicare Supplement Insurance can help cover medical expenses not covered by Medicare.
Medicare Supplement (or Medigap) insurance can help cover medical expenses not covered by Medicare. Because it pays in addition to your Medicare benefits, Medicare Supplement insurance can help reduce the amount of money you must pay on your own and can help protect your retirement savings.
The Basics
If Medicare does cover a service, you could still have out-of-pocket expenses you must pay such as deductibles, co-payments or coinsurance. Medicare Supplement insurance can help lower your out-of-pocket medical costs.
Plus:
- It allows you to choose your own Medicare-approved doctors and hospitals — A referral is not needed by us, but always check with Medicare to see if service is covered or needs a referral.
- Your coverage is guaranteed renewable as long as you pay your premiums on time.
- Even if you move or travel within the U.S., your coverage stays with you.
- If you have open enrollment or guaranteed issue rights, your coverage is guaranteed — there are no health questions to answer.
Know the best time to buy
The best time is during your Open Enrollment Period. Generally, it begins on the first day of the month in which you turn 65 or you are enrolled in Medicare Part B (persons eligible for Medicare due to disability may also qualify for open enrollment for Medicare Supplement insurance regardless of age). It lasts for six months, and you cannot be turned down during this time. After this period, your options may be limited.

Our Innovative Plan G1 is a smarter way to manage your health care costs. This exclusive plan not only provides a lifetime* of savings, but also gives you the flexibility to make informed decisions about your health care coverage.
What it is …
Our Innovative Plan G is a simple way for you to save money on your premiums for life. For the first three calendar years (January 1 to December 31) you have your policy, you’ll pay your share of medical costs up to the yearly deductible.2 Once you meet the deductible, your coverage works like a standard Plan G.
After those three calendar years, the deductible goes away, and you can still enjoy premium savings.
- This Plan G Innovative Rider works hand-in-hand with our Plan G.
- Your deductible automatically goes away January 1 following your third calendar year. You will still have the Part B deductible.
