Winter Got You Down?

Try These Simple Tips to Lift Your Mood

One in four of us feel down during winter. If you're feeling blue, try these steps to help put some spring in your step until warm weather returns.

Get more sun. Get as much direct sunlight as early in the day as you can. If the sky is gray, use a light that simulates sunlight — available at many drugstores and online.

Stay active. Head to the gym. If weather keeps you inside, find exercise DVDs or online videos you can use at home.

Eat healthy. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. If you crave sweets and starches, eat more protein.

Socialize. Interaction with family and friends will boost your mood.

Indulge yourself. Read a book. Take a long bath. Sip hot tea. Whatever simple pleasure picks you up — enjoy it.

If you believe you're suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) or depression, talk with your doctor.

Words of Wisdom:

"Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year."
