Physicians Mutual® and our employees have a strong commitment to giving back to the communities where we live, work and raise our families. Here’s how we are making a difference:
United Way of the Midlands
Our employees consistently meet or exceed the Company’s United Way campaign goal, making Physicians Mutual® one of the leading supporters in Omaha. Through fundraisers, bake sales, and Corporate-sponsored events and games, our employees show their support for the local United Way. The money we raise helps fund vitally needed health and human service programs in Nebraska and Iowa.
Little Brothers — Friends of the Elderly
Physicians Mutual® is a proud partner of Little Brothers — Friends of the Elderly, a non-profit, volunteer-based organization that helps relieve isolation and loneliness among the elderly. In addition to providing financial support to the local Omaha chapter, our employees take an active role in the lives of seniors by joining them in Company-wide luncheons, holiday meals and other social engagements.
Local Races — Omaha Corporate Cup and Race For The Cure
Physicians Mutual® is a proud sponsor of the American Lung Association’s annual Omaha Corporate Cup, a unique walking/running event to raise funds for fighting lung disease in Nebraska. In addition, our employees participate in the local Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure, an event that raises funds for the latest breast cancer research.
Fundraisers for Local Charities
Every year, we hold a variety of fundraisers for local charities. For example, we’ve helped provide school supplies to children who would otherwise have been unable to afford them, participated in the Toys for Tots program, and held food drives for the local food banks. In addition, individual departments frequently support local organizations like battered women and children’s shelters and Habitat for Humanity.
Hurricane Katrina
Physicians Mutual® refused to cancel any coverage for missed premium payments and extended grace periods for those customers impacted by Hurricane Katrina. Additionally, the Physicians Mutual® Foundation contributed to the American Red Cross to help customers and other victims recover in the wake of the devastation left behind.
The Arbor Day Foundation — Trees in Memory Program
In association with the Arbor Day Foundation, we have a tree planted in one of our national forests in memory of each of our life insurance customers who pass away. This simple but enduring gesture helps the environment and also brings comfort to those who have lost a loved one, for as the tree grows and prospers, so does the meaning of this special gift.
